Summer Safety Tips

Break-ins: Please lock your vehicles and houses when unattended. In the spring and summer, towns typically see an increase in break-ins and burglaries and we’re no exception.

Even though the police department step-up neighborhood patrols; unfortunately, they can’t be everywhere at once. We urge residents to please do your part to deter crime including bringing in your belongings at night, shutting your garage doors, and routinely locking your vehicles and residence. A surveillance system and/or motion lights are also an affordable option to ensure security.

Vacation watch: The Platteville Police Department offers a vacation watch program. A vacation form can be filled out at and submitted to the Town Hall prior to leaving. Officers will then make sure to patrol around your residence while you’re away. Please take advantage of this valuable service.

Peddlers/Solicitors: Please use caution when talking to peddlers and solicitors. Don’t let them in your house or give them unnecessary personal information. Don’t hesitate to ask for documentation and proper identification. Remember that it’s against the law to solicit and peddle without a town permit.

Kids: Please be cautious, mindful, and courteous of kids playing outside this summer and on our streets. They are permitted to play in the streets as long as they’re not creating a road hazard or blocking traffic.
